DAYTON, Tenn. – The Lions of Bryan (Tenn.) forced Reinhardt into the fourth set of a match for the first time since Sept. 8, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Eagles Saturday afternoon in the Volunteer State.
Reinhardt was able to hold off a run from the home club en route to a 3-1 win (25-16, 25-16, 11-25, 25-22) and 15 wins in-a-row – 19-4 overall and 10-0 inside Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
"Today was a rough day at the office," head coach Brian Goodhind said. "We didn't play smooth, but we are happy to walk out of here with a 'W.' We will move forward and on to Point."
Carlee Baxter, 44 assists, had a career-best outing in an Eagle uniform against the Lions as she took center stage in coordinating the offensive attack. Emily Charbonneau (16 kills) and Tessa Colden (11) took advantage of their opportunities and finished at the top in points scored on offense.
Highlighting the defensive effort in the win was senior captain Angel Cornista, who seemed to be all over the court with a team-high 20 digs, while Colden was next in line with 12.
These efforts on the hardwood helped the Eagles bolt out to a 2-0 lead in the conference clash, but also helped Reinhardt come through in the clutch when Bryan flipped the script and put pressure on the Eagles in the final two stanzas of the overall outing.
The Lions were able to cut their deficit in half and take set three (25-11) before both teams would go back-and-fourth in the next game. The score would be tied, 10-10, before Reinhardt would gain a five-point advantage and then a 17-11 lead.
Bryan would storm back from 21-16 and get to 23-22 before the Eagles netted back-to-back points to slip out of the Lions' grasp with the triumph.
