WALESKA, Ga. – Thirty assists from Carlee Baxter pushed the Eagles to their eighth win inside the Brown Athletic Center Saturday afternoon, as Reinhardt made quick work of Columbia (S.C.) in straight sets – 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.
For the season, head coach Brian Goodhind and company are 23-4, have won 19-consecutive outings and are a perfect 14-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
"Today was just a day where our team had to handle some adversity when our match was delayed almost two hours," Goodhind said. "We thank Erinn Marroquin for entertaining us with her half-court basketball show during the delay. The team hung in and we were blessed enough to pull out a 'W'.
"We look forward to grinding all week as we tighten up a few things and prepare for Saturday."
The Koalas made life hard on themselves from the get-go, tallying a combined 23 errors in the loss. The Eagles – who taped the floor in pink and wore respective jerseys to honor Breast Cancer Awareness – got the opportunity to again try different plays and lineups to get their depth some live action.
Lucy Zhao played strong when her number was called with three kills in four total attempts. Shadaisha Summerall and Allyson Mattson both hit .667, but it was Cheetara Bing who led the club in kills at nine.
Tessa Colden, the reigning Attacker of the Week in the conference, hit .500 and was next in line with seven scores. Emily Charbonneau – six kills – wasn't far behind at .455 and Shelby Tankersley connected on all five of Reinhardt's aces in the victory.
Collectively, the Eagles owned a hitting percentage of .370 and blocked four shots.
