Atlanta, Ga. - A few days before their big conference pod, the Eagles had a warm-up game with the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers to get them ready. The two met a few weeks ago at Reinhardt and the Eagles would win easily in three straight sets. The Wednesday night match-up would go the same as the Eagles would win three straight 25-14, 25-18, and 25-14. Morehouse is a developing program and this gives Coach Goodhind a chance to get more players some court time. The Eagles would step up and take care of their business in this one and now can focus on the tough conference pod games coming up this weekend.
Rayner Sarmiento and Jake Pennypacker would both have great games with Sarmiento leading the Eagles in kills with 10. Pennypacker would share duties with Bruno Dewes as the setter and he would have 12 assists, 2 aces, and 3 digs. Dewes would have 13 assists and 4 aces. Sarmiento would have 3 digs and 2 blocks to go with his kills.
The Eagles would lead from beginning to end of all three sets and breakout to large leads midway through each set. Chase Cross and John Hynes would both have great sets getting 4 and 5 kills respectively. Additionally, Hynes had zero errors giving him a .833 hitting percentage. Christian Deleon would have 3 kills and 2 digs as well. Seth Stankich would lead the Eagles in digs with 7 total.
The Eagles will be heading to the conference pod this weekend on the campus of Campbellsville University where they will play Rio Grande and Thomas More on Friday and Cumberland (TN) and Campbellsville on Saturday. This will be a very competitive pod with top-ranked teams coming in to play. After this weekend, the Eagles will be back home for their final two matches of the season with St. Andrews coming in on Thursday, March 24th, and Truett McConnell on Saturday, March 26th.
