Eagles Win Close One in Second Round of the AAC Tournament
Kingsport, TN - At this point in the season, it is all about getting a win. Ultimately, you want to have an easy go in the first rounds with everything clicking for your team, however, it doesn't always work out that way and the teams that are still playing are there for a reason. Reinhardt would do just enough to get a win against Point University on Tuesday evening squeaking out a win, 2-1, as Ally Andriano and the Eagles' defense holds Point scoreless in six of the seven innings.
Andriano would get her 17th win on the season pitching the seven-inning complete game striking out four Skyhawk batters. She was able to scatter seven hits over the seven innings and keep Point off the board. Point was able to score one run in the second inning as Andriano would give up a double to start the inning. The runner on second would eventually score after another Skyhawk singled a few batters later. This would be the only run for Point as Andriano was on her game and proved why she is one of the best pitchers in the AAC.
Offensively, the Eagles would have trouble getting runs, however, they did just enough to go along with Andriano's brilliant pitching performance. Statistically, it was not the best game for Reinhardt - but there were some good individual moments. Lauren Parker would lead the Eagles in batting going 2 for 3 with a double. Ansley Evans and Jill Martinet would have the two RBIs in the game and this was all that the Eagles needed to move on in the winner's bracket of the AAC Tournament.
The first run of the game came in the first inning as Alexis Griffith singled to get on base and she made it to second on a throwing error by Point. A few batters later, Jill Martinet would hit a sac fly to center which allowed Griffith to score from second. This put the Eagles up, 1-0, going into the second inning. The Eagles would not get another run until the bottom of the sixth. Hailey Kaddatz would get a single after one out was recorded in the sixth. Next, Lauren Parker would get her double which moved Kaddatz to third base. Sydney Goddard was put in for Kaddatz at third to pinch-run and this might have been the "good move" of the game by the Eagles' coaching staff. Ansley Evans came up next and she was able to get a sac fly to center which allowed Goddard to tag up and make the go-ahead run for the Eagles. After Goddard crossed the plate, the final out was recorded when Parker was thrown out at third, however, the run was already scored and the Eagles would take the 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh.
Andriano would come in to finish her task in the game getting a ground out and two pop-ups to give the Eagles the win and advance to the next game in the winner's bracket. The Eagles will be right back at it tomorrow where they will face the talented Tennessee Wesleyan squad who are the #3 seed in the tournament. The game will be at 5 pm and game statistics and live stream links can be found on this page:
