Reinhardt Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Montreat 31-1 After 14-goal First Quarter
Montreat, N.C. - Reinhardt put the match away almost immediately Friday, racing to a 14-goal first quarter on the way to a 31-1 road win over Montreat at Pulliam Stadium. Miranda Petrillo opened the scoring at 14:18 of the first quarter, and Skylar Arroyave's goal with six seconds left in the quarter capped the decisive opening burst for the Eagles.
Reinhardt finished with 45 shots, including 41 on goal, and controlled the game in nearly every phase. The Eagles won 25 draw controls, forced 13 turnovers and held Montreat to five shots, with only three on goal. Montreat's only score came at 7:48 of the second quarter, when Grace Wiegand converted a power-play chance to make it 16-1. Reinhardt answered later in the quarter on Hayley Rakestraw's free-position goal and led 18-1 at halftime.
The Eagles continued to add on after the break. Grace Ashworth scored on a man-up opportunity at 14:26 of the third quarter to start another Reinhardt push, and Jessica Lucas added a third-quarter goal as the margin kept growing. Reinhardt scored seven times in the third and six more in the fourth, with Ava Pieron pushing the total past 25 on a goal at 13:47 of the final quarter.
Emma Perritte and Mary Grace Lewis led a balanced Reinhardt attack with seven points each. Perritte finished with two goals and five assists, while Lewis posted four goals and three assists. Izzy Prestia added four goals and two assists, including an assist on Reinhardt's third goal of the day and another on Lawna Henry's fourth-quarter score. Chelbi Mcelwaney contributed three goals and two assists as the Eagles spread production throughout the lineup.
In goal, Reinhardt's keepers combined for two saves and allowed just one goal. Montreat's goalkeepers were busier throughout the afternoon and combined for 10 saves. Reinhardt also converted two power-play goals and did not allow one, aside from Montreat's lone man-up strike. Official Christian Zylstra worked the game, and attendance was 21.
By the closing minutes, the only remaining question was the final margin. Henry scored at 4:42 of the fourth quarter off an assist from Prestia to make it 30-1, part of a closing stretch that carried Reinhardt to its 31-1 finish in Black Mountain.
